  • Nystatin side effects?

Tweety is more fluffed today, not feeling well at all, much worse. I'm wondering if it's the Nystatin causing some GI upset. Anyone ever had a bird not feel well on it? It can cause GI upset in humans.

My vet mentioned ACV, but said it doesn't work as well as Nystatin. I left a msg. for him to call me. Hopefully he'll call soon.

Anyone used ACV for a yeast infection, and it worked?

omg, now he's tail bobbing. This bird has been through so much.

My vet should call soon, unless he's running over schedule. They close at 5.

Oh no! Please let us know what you hear. I have no experience with Nystatin. Hang in there, Tweety!

Still waiting for him to call. I hope it's just the Nystatin making him feel so much worse. He's miserable. He's sitting fluffed, closed eyes, shivering and tail bobbing. He's very weak. He's wobbly. He'll soon be sitting on the bottom of the cage. I'm going to move him to the smaller cage.
I hope he hasn't developed a respiratory infection. His little body can't take anymore antibiotics. He's been on so many that they've just about killed him now. He has no gram positive or gram negative bacteria, yeast overgrowth and possible kidney damage.
I hate watching him suffer. If this continues I'll have to make a decision for him like I did for little Piglet.

I know you know this, but am just saying "just in case,"...put him in a small, warm, darkish cage in a very quiet room. A heating pad on top of the cage can help. Also, a warm mist humidifier can also help retain warmth and help him stay hydrated while you wait for the vet to call. You and Tweety are in my prayers.

ACV does work but not as well as a real medicine of course. There has been success with "low level" infections but if the infection is bad then the medicine should be used.

Any word from the vet yet?

Haven't heard from the vet yet. He must have really gone over schedule. Or has an emergency in his office.

I don't know how bad the yeast is John, I'll ask the vet when he calls.

                Thanks for moving this Kristen.

Just checking in. We're thinking of you and Tweety! I know you'll let us know when you're able to.

Aww poor guy. I've only used Nyastin once but didn't find it helped much.

Hi Kristen, the vet didn't call. He usually does when I leave a msg. I don't know what came up.

I think it is the Nystatin. He has perked up some now. I have him out of the cage and he's singing. I think he could miss one dose until I can talk to the vet in the morning? I'm afraid to give him anymore, it could be some kind of allergic reaction, since it did affect his breathing a little. Unless the slight tail bobbing came from a stomach upset. I wouldn't think so.

The vet also mentioned Fluconazole Wednesday, I'll talk to him about this in the morning and see what he wants to do.

I hope missing one dose won't cause the yeast infection to really take over.

Maybe I should call the vet tonight?

I would continue to try and get a hold of the vet. In the meantime, I also agree, I would stop the meds. Keep nagging the vet until he gets back to you so you are not waiting too long. If he was fine until this, then I doubt it was coincedence.

Should I call him tonight? Or would it hurt to miss one dose? He could probably call in something to Walgreens. Wish I had called him again earlier but I thought he would call. He has called as late as 9:30 before. It's 10:15 here now.

He was weak at times before this (because of whatever is going on, either the sterile gut issue/possible kidney damage causing low albumin). Today was the worst.

I have heard that ACV is very good, but gessh if he is reacting to the meds, I;m not sure I would continue with it..

Its past 5;00 and no call eh??

Hope you will get a call tomorrow....if not call him first thing in the morning....poor baby

I would try calling him again. Apologize but tell him you are very worried because if he is allergic or it is not working good, it will not do him any good.
