I believe the hotel is somewhat at fault, unfortunately, and should be liable for having the Macaw in close proximity to people. Because, as we all know, people are idiots. It is in their best interest to have the Macaw separated FOR THE SAFETY OF THE BIRD and also to protect them from just this sort of thing happening. I am always amazed at Expos and parrot events when people do the things they do. I have seen multiple people stick their fingers inside cages or in birds' faces. They don't ask. They reach.
With that being said, I'm sure the story has been embellished for the lawsuit. The fact that the man took his baby over to the bird and let it put it's finger in range of it, shows you he is not the brightest bulb on the tree. But, if you don't know parrots, and the bird is in a public place, you have the assumption it is safe to interact with. I wonder how this will be resolved. If I was the hotel, I'd offer a settlement.

Question about my above post- do you see the word "people" twice in the one sentence? When I typed it, it wasn't there twice and when I go to edit it, it only shows once. Very odd.
The sentence I'm referring to says "As we all know, people are idiots". When I look at it posted it has people twice. When I hit the edit button, it's only there once.

I only see two people up there. Not in the same sentence.

This is horrible! What a stupid, stupid man. As for the bird consuming the childs finger, a 14 month old baby's finger is not very big and I can see how the finger could be "consumed" past the point of reattachment in a matter of seconds by a macaw.
